UW–Stout and the Thompson Center hosted a virtual event with renowned trauma expert Dr. Janina Fisher on the psychological and somatic impact of living through a pandemic. Dr. Fisher is a licensed Clinical Psychologist and Supervisor at the Trauma Research Foundation founded by Bessel van der Kolk. She is known for her expertise as a therapist and consultant and is the author of Healing the Fragmented Selves of Trauma Survivors and Transforming the Living Legacy of Trauma. Dr. Janina Fisher presented on a neurobiological model of understanding traumatic stress. Dr. Fisher discussed the traumatic impact of Covid-19, lockdowns, masking, and returning to “normal” on our minds and bodies. Strategies for coping, healing, and resilience were offered along with tips for engaging and supporting communities in the post-pandemic period.
